Tutorial Created by "Disney2Go"
A tutorial for Coloring, Shading, and Tubing!
"Color & Tube Tutorial"
This tutorial assumes you have a basic working knowledge of Paint Shop Pro or similar program.
I used PSPX to create this tutorial , however it can easily be done in any version of PSP.
I have created many of the tubes on my site by coloring-in a coloring page using paint shop pro and a few plug-ins.
But this can also be done without using any plug-ins at all, so downloading the plug-in is totally optional!
~What you will need~
Internet Access, WinZip, PSP, Coloring Page, and a Plug-in Folder (optional)
If you don't have Paint Shop Pro you can download a free 30-60 day trial HERE
If you don't have a zip file extractor you can download a free trial version of winzip HERE
This is my favorite plug-in - Xero - Porcelain & Radiance
Below are 4 images to choose from ( I am going to do Dumbo )

Just click on a thumbnail image and a new page will open with the full sized image.
Save the image to a folder on your computer and open up your Paint Shop Pro,
then open the file in your PSP and duplicate a copy by going to the windows tab and selecting
"Duplicate Copy"
After duplicating the original copy, save the original and close it, now open your duplicate
copy in full screen view to fit the window size & let's get started!
All settings and steps should be played with in order to accomplish the look you want.
Step 1
First thing you'll want to do is promote the background to a layer.
(Go to "Selections" - select all, then go to "Layers" and promote background to layer)
Step 2
Using your magic wand tool - (looks like a lasso) use the settings below
~we are going to get rid of the white background~
Magic Wand Settings
(if needed- feather out by 1 to get all the white background)
Now click on the white background outside of the image and your image will have marching
ants around it, select the scissors icon and cut
Step 3
Now go to the "Selections" tab and "Select None"
Then make another duplicate copy of your image and minimize it for later.
Step 4
Using your magic wand with the same settings select a large section of the image, like the face and outer ears
This is Important!!- With your section selected create a new raster layer
(you can do this by right clicking on the image and selecting "New Raster Layer")
Name the new layer, "Face" or whatever section you chose.
Step 5
Now select your paint can icon and floodfill it with the color of your choice,
(use a gradient or a solid color for best results)
If it will help - you can use a colored picture as a guide
(Don't worry to much about detail at this point, you can change the color tone and shading later.)
This is not a step- it's just a few extra tricks I have tried in the past.
~Tips and Tricks for color editing techniques without using a plug-in~
You can lighten this up by going to your effects tab and down to the art media effects
and then select colored chalk or colored pencil and mess with the settings until you reach the color
softness that you desire, but don't go to soft- you don't want your image to look washed out.
Using the "Brush Strokes" tool always gives an image a unique look to it as well!
At this point you should save your image in layers in a psp format!!
Step 6
Now go to selections and select none
Go Back to bottom layer and select your magic wand again and choose another section,
with section selected create a new raster layer, name it, and flood fill it with color of choice.
Step 7
Repeat these steps until entire image is colored - keeping each section in a separate layer.
Save your image again!
Step 8
At this point you should have several layers and a fully colored image.
Once you have your basic colors set the rest will be easy.
It should look something like this with all layers open.
You can stop here or go to the next page for the advanced portion!
If you stop here please take a moment to fill out my tutorial survey.
Thank-you!
Now this is just too plain for me, so we are going to make it look a little more 2d'ish.
We can also shade it & make highlights for an authentic look.
